The Secret of my Success

A couple of years ago, I wrote a blog post about how to get your kids to smile for photographs (not the "say cheese" type of smile... the other kind). I use those tricks all the time, and every once in awhile, add a new one to the bag. I got to photograph Annaliese and Will and their three gorgeous kiddos last year on a perfect fall morning... cool and foggy with that lovely chimney-smoke smell in the air.  We headed outside to take advantage of the day, starting in their beautiful back yard. They'd gotten everything by the house all prettied up in anticipation of my visit, but of course my immediate instinct was to head into the far corner by the trees. They warned me to watch my step (they've got a couple of big dogs), but I got focused on their kids, and two minutes into the shoot, I'd stepped directly into what turned out to be the world's best way to get a three and five year-old to laugh and giggle their way through a portrait session.

It's not a glamorous job, but I'll do it for the smiles...
