Day 5 | A Backyard Wedding in Roanoke, VA

Whew! Who knew that blogging every day for a week would be so hard? I realize there are people out there who actually write, like, PARAGRAPHS-worth of content every day, every week like it was their JOB, but I figure that for those people, it either is their job, or else they don't have jobs, 'cause yeah: whew. That said, for all the work, it's been amazing to share these and build anticipation about all of the images to come... as I sit editing into the wee hours of the morning, it's always nice to know that there are people out there as excited as I am to see their images. As a bonus, today's preview of Hannah & Kyle's gorgeous wedding in Roanoke, VA includes a few extra photographs: the wedding was so beautiful, and the bride and groom's duet during the ceremony so absolutely sweet, that I just couldn't help myself :)Roanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding PhotographyRoanoke Wedding Photography

Hannah & Kyle, I hope you're having a blast in Antigua... now go have some kind of frozen rum deliciousness for me, please!

Rediscovering Home | Roanoke, VA Engagement Portraits

As promised (way back in the beginning of January in this post), here's a more complete collection from Hannah & Kyle's engagement session in Roanoke, Virginia, where they'll be getting married next Fall. Roanoke is a beautiful little town nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains, and just happens to be where I grew up... so for our session, Hannah, Kyle & I criss-crossed the town visiting some of my old favorite spots and exploring new ones. And then halfway through, I looked up at the mountain and saw that a huge cloud had formed at the top, so we jumped in the car and went on yet another detour to get these...

...and then back downtown for some shots around the Taubman Museum, which was built several years after I'd moved away. It's a large and distinctly modern building set in the midst of an otherwise traditional downtown, and it ruffled a lot of feathers when it was being built, but I have to say: I love it... if for no other reason than that it's a great place to make portraits.

Hannah & Kyle, I'm sad I don't get to see you again until October, but I'm really looking forward to your wedding... I have a feeling it's going to be extraordinary!

Hannah & Kyle | Roanoke, Virginia Engagement Photographer

Happy New Year! I can't believe it's already January again... I wouldn't even believe December happened except that my house has little Christmas tree needles hiding in every corner and instead of begging for dessert, my children have started asking if they can have more gifts (they seem to take the "it's a long shot, but the worst she can say is no" approach). Anyway, I thought it appropriate for the first post of 2013 to give you a peek at my last shoot of 2012! Even before I had the chance to meet them, I put Hannah and Kyle's wedding on my list of awesome things to look forward to shooting this year, and now that we have met, I'm even more excited... they are about as fun and down to earth as they come  :D

Oh, and then there's Hannah's eyes... which are NOT hard to photograph!

Plenty more to come... including some lovely wintry shots taken at the top of the mountain. Such a nice way to end the year!
