Ellen & Peter

Ellen & Peter got married last fall at the North Carolina Museum of Art. They'd traveled all the way from San Francisco where they live - bringing everything from Ellen's stunning Vera Wang gown to a whole truck-load of their favorite beer (Pliny the Elder from the Russian River Brewing Co.) - to throw a party that they described as an acknowledgment and celebration of their commitment, and a huge thank you to everyone who'd helped them to this point in their lives and their relationship. Despite the difficulty of long-distance planning, they'd pieced together a really personal, meaningful day, anchored by a ceremony against the dramatic backdrop of the museum's famous ring sculptures by Thomas Sayre, who is a friend of Ellen's dad. During the course of our pre-wedding correspondence, Ellen mentioned more than once how much she hoped the weather would cooperate for this one (rather large) detail... Rain_Wedding_Raleigh_Art_MuseumAlas, the stormy skies were unrelenting that day, but as we all know, these things happen. What was amazing was how Ellen and Peter took the whole thing completely in stride, as if it didn't matter at all. Following their lovely, hand-crafted ceremony, they hosted a gorgeous reception at the NCMA's chic, modern restaurant Iris, which managed to be equal parts elegant and killer fun. At the end of the night, guests gathered at Cafe Helios (owned by Ellen's dad) for snacks and beer and Krispy Kremes late into the night.NCMA_Wedding_PhotographersNCMA_Wedding_PhotographerNCMA_Wedding_PhotographyNorth-Carolina-Museum-Art-Wedding-PhotographerNorth-Carolina-Museum-Art-Wedding-PhotographersNCMA-First-Look-Wedding-PhotographyNorth-Carolina-Museum-Art-Rain-Wedding-PhotographyNCMA-Bridal-Party-PhotographyNCMA-Bridal-Party-PortraitNCMA-Bridal-PortraitsNCMA-Iris-Restaurant-WeddingsIris-Restaurant-Wedding-PhotographersRaleigh-Wedding-PhotographersBeer-Themed-Wedding-Photographers-DurhamNCMA-Weddings-Rain-LocationIndoor-location-NCMA-WeddingsRaleigh-Art-Museum-Indoor-WeddingNCMA-Ceremony-LocationsNCMA-Indoor-Ceremony-LocationsNCMA-Indoor-Wedding-PhotographersNCMA-Rain-Ceremony-LocationsNCMA-Indoor-Ceremony-VenueRaleigh-Art-Museum-Wedding-PhotographersRaleigh-Iris-Restaurant-Wedding-PhotographyIris-Restaurant-Weddings-RaleighIris-Raleigh-Museum-Wedding-PhotographerIris-Raleigh-Wedding-Reception-PhotographyIris-Restaurant-Raleigh-Wedding-PhotographersIris-Restaurant-Wedding-ReceptionRaleigh-Wedding-PhotographyCindas-Creative-Cakes-RaleighNCMA-Reception-Iris-RestaurantRaleigh-Art-Museum-Wedding-Reception-PhotographerNC-Museum-Art-Wedding-PhotographersCafe-Helios-Wedding-RaleighRaleigh-Wedding-Afterparty-LocationsRaleigh-Wedding-Donuts-PhotographyNCMA-Wedding-Photographer-Art

Betsy & Kevin's Amazing Backyard Wedding

This past spring, Betsy and Kevin got married in the most lovely, laid-back backyard wedding you could possibly imagine: the weather was perfect, the food and booze were abundant, and the landscaping they'd worked really, really hard on for months was not only beautiful, but in full, spectacular bloom. As anyone who's ever planned a wedding knows, even the most casual affairs require a ton of work, so I was hugely impressed not only by the seamless execution of this VERY ambitious DIY wedding, but also by how relaxed Betsy and Kevin managed to be on the day of. Take a look for yourself...Raleigh-wedding-dresses-photographerRaleigh-backyard-wedding-flowersRaleigh-backyard-wedding-photographerRaleigh-wedding-photography-black-and-whiteRaleigh-wedding-at-home-photographerRaleigh-weddings-photographersRaleigh-bridal-portraitsRaleigh-lifestyle-wedding-photographerFather-of-the-bride-wedding-photographerRaleigh-backyard-wedding-ceremonyBarbara-Lodge-Wedding-PhotographerRaleigh-outdoor-wedding-photographersRaleigh-outdoor-wedding-photographerRaleigh-photojournalist-wedding-photographyRaleigh-backyard-wedding-photographer-detailsRaleigh-outdoor-bridal-portraitsRaleigh-backyard-weddings-photographyCreative-funny-wedding-toasts-RaleighRaleigh-Whole-Foods-Wedding-CupcakesRaleigh-wedding-photographer-first-danceRaleigh-wedding-photographer-mother-son-father-daughter-danceraleigh-backyard-wedding-photographersraleigh-backyard-wedding-photographer-portraitsRaleigh-wedding-photographers-portraitsA funny side note: Riley MacLean and I co-shot this wedding. It's a long story (which I won't bore you with), but though we've worked together on many weddings, this was the first where we were both on point... which was tons of fun! What you've seen here were some of the day's events through my lens, but be sure to keep an eye on his blog to see the day from his viewpoint. Toward the end of the day, Betsy's brother grabbed my camera and made this photo, which he dubbed "The Dream Team." I'll take it  ;)

Emily & Lee's Second Wedding... to each other

If you follow my Instagram feed, you know I was photographing a pretty incredible wedding this past weekend. What you might not have caught was that the bride and groom were Emily & Lee, whose wedding I already shot last fall. That wedding was fantastic (remember? If not, go take a look here!), but so very teeny-tiny that these two decided to host a second event so that their many amazing friends and family members could celebrate with them. I can't tell you how happy I was to get invited, too! Camp Pinnacle outside of Asheville is an idyllic spot - green and lush and as peaceful as you could hope for. The whole weekend was full of all kinds of camp fun: swimming, canoeing, bunking in cabins, and s'mores on the campfire. Then on Saturday afternoon, everyone got cleaned up and headed down to the council ring to participate in Emily & Lee's Quaker-style wedding ceremony which, despite a guest list of 200 instead of five, was as intimate and sweet as their first.

More to come... these for now:
