step two: find a date

Once you know what you'd like, the next step is to figure out when we can get a session on the books! The easiest way to compare calendars is for you to email or call me with a few available options - once we find a date, booking is 100% online and takes just a few minutes. As you pull out your calendar, here are a few things to consider:

  • Given the beautiful colors and temperate weather, spring and fall are the busiest times of year for outdoor family photos in North Carolina. If you'd like a session during one of those times, get in touch as soon as possible to claim a spot!
  • If you have a particular date or holiday by which you need prints or gifts (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Hanukkah, Christmas, etc.), be sure to book a date at least one month in advance of that date to ensure sufficient processing and printing time.
  • Weekend dates are limited and popular, and thus incur a $50 charge in addition to your choice of collections. Many clients who work regular business hours find that by scheduling early in the morning or late in the afternoon, they're able to work a session in with almost no time lost at the office.
  • Babies and young children are almost universally at their very best first thing in the morning, which just happens to also be a great time of day for beautiful light. If you have children under five years old, I encourage you to consider a session at or as close to sunrise as you can reasonably be ready.
  • If you have older children or have one of those rare babies that doesn't do mornings, the other time of day that gives us great light is late afternoon/early evening... usually around 1.5-2 hours before sunset.
  • Beautiful photographs can be made in any kind of weather, but I understand that there are some downsides to being photographed in the pouring rain. I can and do reschedule sessions for inclement weather, but am also happy to use your home or one of my indoor or semi-indoor locations if sticking to the schedule is a priority.

step three: plan to make the most of your beautiful new photos

What you're going to do with your images is perhaps the most important aspect to consider when you're planning for a photo session, but it's all too often the aspect that's overlooked... all that time and money invested deserve a better return than photos gathering dust on a hard drive somewhere. I'm a firm believer in the importance of printing your photos, whether you have me do it or someone else. Although each collection starts with digital files, I'm committed to helping you get your images off of the computer and into your home where you can enjoy them every day. To that end, I offer a well-curated set of high-quality print options through my studio (described below), as well as a detailed guide to the best printing services, product options, and storage practices that is included with all digital files.

PROFESSIONAL PRINTS

Professional prints are made in a lab using luster-finish photo paper. These prints are great for small gifts and scrapbooking. They come unmatted & unframed, and should be transferred into and stored in an album, frame, or archival storage box to prevent damage or deterioration.

5x7 / $25

8x10 / $30

handmade FINE ART PRINTS

Fine art prints are hand made on archival matte paper, signed and dated by the artist on the reverse, then matted in 100% cotton rag mat. Fine art prints are perfect for framing and hanging on the wall or giving as a special gift. Custom framing is available.

CUSTOM SESSION ALBUMS

Custom Session Albums are the ultimate way to archive your images, boasting deep matte photographic paper adhered to a substantial 1/16in rigid pages. Your choice of several high-quality linens or leathers for the cover can be personalized with either a cameo opening or up to three lines of debossed text. The layout is completely customizable and can include an unlimited number of images.

10 spreads (20 pages) are included. Additional spreads (1 spread = 2 pages) can be added for $75 each.

SIMPLE SESSION BOOKS

Simple Session Books are the Custom Session Albums' little sister. They share high-quality binding and photographic printing, but the pages are thinner (1/32in rather than 1/16in), the paper is luster-finish rather than deep matte, and - most notably - the design is simpler: you choose twenty images and they are printed one to a page. Covers come in your choice of several beautiful linen colors and your choice of debossed text.

10 spreads (20 pages) are included. Additional spreads (1 spread = 2 pages) can be added for $50 each.
